He put his money where his heart was
He walked his own green nature talk
Our world is poorer now without him
His last dying breath outlined in chalk
He never sought out any recognition
For his green philanthropic ways
Our world is poorer now without him
Since bullets ended his last days
He acted with noblest intention
Yet showed us still such rare humility
Our world is poorer now without him
As we go on living, buying more less guiltily...
His money bought wolves legislation
Through his nature loving eco-friends
Though they are poorer now without him
I doubt his predators will make amends
He put his money where his Heart was
Buying grey suits for the Wildlife Fund
Their World is poorer now without him
These gunshots leave us all just stunned...
Author's Notes: On Friday a rare kind of environmentalist was gunned down in Ontario. His name was Glen Davis, the son of a successful industrialist, when he inherited his father's wealth he chose wisely to direct one third of the profits towards environmental causes including wildlife conservation. And he spent one third of his time in Nature, savouring it, studying it. Mr. Davis never sought publicity for his generous support of wildlife conservation. No, he would deny any press request for a photo or a comment... that is true altruism! Now one may not totally agree with all he supported (one must put their own money where their own hearts are) but no one can deny that Mr. Davis was a very special and very rare kind of human being. The world needs many more of the likes of him today. I humbly bow to his good deeds and intentions...
