There is a black cat on the threshold
That I must now step over every morn
But there's a white dove on the rooftop
Its mourning song not now forlorn...
There is black cohosh in the forest
That you used to take away your pain
But there are white lilacs in the garden
Flowering so fragrant after all that rain...
There are black horses in our pastures
That we ride still under moonlight
But there's white rabbits in the barnyard
Growing fat on clover in the sunlight...
There's cold black coals in our firepits
That you still use to create your art
But there's white ashes carried skyward
With the new hot pyres that we start...
There's black shadows in my thoughts still
That I must learn to live with all my days
But there's white satin on our pillows soft
To cushion all your special goddess ways...
