A sickly crow caws in the distance
While red robins sing on cheerily
In between I write in a dark trance
As my thoughts drift meerily to You
A Blue heron squawk now punctuates
Above tiny chickadees dee-deeing
In between the writer now commiserates
About a lovely dream of you I'm seeing
A lone veery sings liquid ethereal
While grasshopper sparrows dryly buzz
In between I write from out of the surreal
When I think back on mystery that was
Black nighthawks cut the evening sky
While white throat sparrows claim today
In between I write so we will never die
Though my thoughts, like us, are turning gray
To the sunset sings the last wood thrush
While mourned and honoured by a common dove
In between I scribe muse words that rush
As my thoughts yearn for your inspiring Love
