There's a thin deer in the headlights
And the sweet hint of balsam in the air
The dark swamps around renewed tonight
Beyond the black bear's empty flooded lair
There are linesmen working overtime
Restoring light for damp darkened homes
To singing chorus frogs and poets' rhyme
While through night's shadow wolves lean roam
There's black water washing over roads
Sparkling bright under warmth's waxing moon
From the dark forests dwindling snow loads
Come flash floods though none too soon...
There's cold water in your basement
As last year's empty wells now overflow
You're moved my Her sudden displacement
And I by black bear hair's moonlit glow...
There's one lone woodcock on the singing ground
Still sky-dancing deeply into this warm night
As Spring's sweet sounds and scents surround
For Her my winged spirit takes again to flight...
