You cannot really know compassion
Until you've been tried and suffered
You must get tossed in gales thrashing
You must drift lost to be finally recovered
You cannot really see how merciful Lights
Until unto stark blackness you are thrown
You must lose your way in long dark nights
Before Hope's far away dim beacon's shown
You will never reach that distant shore
Unless you learn to navigate the storm
You cannot brave high seas forever more
Until dangerous living is your unsafe norm
You'll not stroll on a greener pasture
With your true ancient Lover hand-in-hand
Before tempest waves you tame and master
Only then might you walk that promised land
You will not know what Love's about
Before you've conquered all your fears
Until you've defyed death and done without
Sustained just through sheer guts & tears
