Come Autumn

Come Autumn

Each year beneath these goldenrods tall
Come Mabon bloom white and purple asters
At this time around us lives must fall
With autumn a trillion small disasters
This eve yearling ducks fly overhead
And high above them geese in formation
Come morning some of them will fall dead
To feed our thanksgiving celebrations
There's young ruffed grouse among the grape vines
Like first red maple leaves some come to ground
Tonight there's deer hunters reading signs
Knowing through Her give and take new Life's found
Tonight there's salmon struggling upstream
Driven to spawn then die whence where they start
Swim with me again unto our dreams
That just begin again when our Hearts part
Each year with the first of coming frost
Our goddess bleeds down Life into Her Earth
Preserved against winter's Death, not lost
Life's just recycled through Her spring's rebirth
