As these autumn days grow shorter
You will find me out on the Land
Mixing cement marl and mystic mortar
One part white lake mud to six of sand
In these mabon evenings ever colder
You might easily find me splitting rocks
Just as fit though 'tis true one year older
Now more oblivious to urbane ticking clocks
With winter snowfall fast approaching
You may have noticed I can't rest
The killing frosts quickly encroaching
Compell me on to build a new stone nest
As migrant geese fly high overhead
You know I'm hunkering down right here
After the hunt we will be warmed, well fed
By a bright fire through the dark turning year
Before October winds leave you cold, alone
And November storms with snowy violence
You'll find me carefully setting time-worn stone
In prayerful mortar deep mindfully in silence
