Light She Paints on Black

I will give you a pristine canvas white
That I find you’ll commence to paint pure black
Then out from behind its darkness you’ll draw light
Whence from shadow you will give the sky’s shine back
From out of long bleak nights you paint the day
Stark tree branches silhouetted yet as in reverse
Making what’s void dance bright - it is your special way
Taking back the Light you’ve so many times rehearsed
You render magic pure with your hands so slight
Returning to the Sun eclipsed the rays you took
When winged mysteries of your brush noir take flight
I’m learning something of your strong shadowed book
Give up pages and your fight - come stay with me
Forever tight our lips create through ages art together
Live up quite like brilliant stars under which we lay
Thundering never touched beyond Earth-bound weather
Lend me your darkest Love and most artistic insight
So I might make up to you someday for all we lack
Send me high unto endless heaven’s starlit height
Though I fear you’ll take what’s bright and paint it black
