Above These Hills & Hagstones

Above These Hills & Hagstones
Come dusk this moon is waxing full
As wolf packs howl all around
Paired black horses relax in cold stalls
When there’s too few deer here to be found
These vast woods are cloaked in eerie silence
Except when wolf howls surround
For fawns have fallen often to fanged violence
Lost where blood-softened dead grasses are found
Long shadows black loom large tonight
As wolves gray prowl without a sound
Against this full moon waxing bright
Beneath tall old growth shimmering crowned
Silver streaks blue hills in lunar light
Like hides of deer these wolves have downed
While two stabled horses eat hay out of sight
Fanged hearts take fawn flesh pound by pound
The rising mother moon is glowing full
As wolves stalk stealthily still around
Towards another deer’s eyes growing dull
Above these hills & hagstones under ground
