Tired Bird Dog

Tired Bird-dog
We've a rain-proof roof above your head
And a fired wood cook-stove for heat
Fresh-herbed grouse and roots to eat
And one tired bird-dog at our feet
We've a solid house of hand hewn logs
E'er whispering words kind in its walls
Outside, winter's darkness and cold bogs
There, wolves howl and the raven calls...
Inside we've three full oil lamps for light
Backed up with five candles for romance
Shimmering star-bright 'gainst the night
Casting circling shadows 'bout our dance
We've pure spring water in the well
Fed by clear head-water courses
When 'the system' slides towards hell
In the barn we've still two willing horses
We've a rain-proof roof above our head
And a stoked wood cook-stove for heat
Below, a soft warm four-post bed
And one tired bird-dog at our feet
