Sunrise

Sunrise.
Beautiful sunrise.
you appeared to me as pleasant surprise.
after yesterday's sorrows, tears, pains,
here you are rising in glorious radiance
are you a foe or a friend
giving false sign how this day will end?
are you God's smile i see
warming burdened hearts,
darkened minds
of souls living in apathy?
i feel safe thinking that your rays
are perhaps God's extended arms
touching, bringing comfort
taking out souls from despond.
what you are really,
what you are for,
is sometimes a puzzle to me.
you may be a thousand things
to thousand souls and beings
life, hope, or a forgotten beauty,
but always to me God's smile
that fell to Earth unnoticed
yet never will be wasted.
Author's Notes: written sometime in year 2000 in my own home, when by some miracle i happened to wake up earlier than usual and the sight and feel of morning sunlight was so reviving it filled me with awe.
