Why Did You Go?

I was left alone,
Alone in the world,
Silently mourning,
But the tears never flowed.
Why did you go?
I was thrown off my path,
Never to see your face again,
To feel your presence close to me,
To feel your arms around me.
Why did you go?
I looked up to the clear night sky,
Stars twinkling,
I wondered if you were up there,
Looking down on me.
Why did you go?
The wind whipped around me,
Tugging at my clothes,
I felt your presence around me,
Turning as I did.
I asked “Why did you go?”
As I saw you floating there,
A shadow of your former self,
Smiling in reply.
I screamed “Why did you go?”
And you moved closer towards me,
Still smiling, haunting me, torturing me,
“I love you now and forever” you said with such finality.
Your image started to waver,
My tears began to flow,
You waved a final goodbye,
And I sank to the floor, memories of you ingrained into my soul.
Now I walk along the path,
That we walked together.
Living our dreams, and dreams of my own,
Never asking “Why did you go?”
I longed for the day that I would rejoin you,
For your arms to be around me,
So that we may dream the days away,
Together forever more.
So here we fly, across the sky,
Floating with the marshmallow clouds,
Our love so pure, never-ending,
And here we remain for all eternity to rest amongst the stars.
