Hernes wood

There is a glade deep
within the forests heart.
Where sun dappled flowers
abound in gay abandon.
But this is not all,
for here can be found
the abode of Herne.
Come, in dawns early light,
when mist swirls in the air
and quietly wait with
baited breath, wait with
a humble heart, and if
he choses you the great God
will reveal himself.
Herne the great horned one,
dressed in the skin of a deer
magnificent antlers
worn as if a crown.
His presence as that of the
highest King bids you
be welcome here.
Suddenly you are aware that
nothing of civilisation dwells
within this great one.
And you bow the knee
in homage, to the King
Of the wild wood.
The heartbeat of the forest.
You give him homage and
his strength is yours
for the asking, you ask and he
imparts his wildness to you
and gives you courage.
And as you leave this sacred place
Hernes form merges with your own.
