The Feast of the Dead
by Pangur-ban
Age Group: Adult
Between this world and the next
there is a veil.
Sometimes so thin that you could
almost penetrate it.
This is the time that our world of
flesh and blood
meets that of spirit.
A time when our ancestors call to us
for recognition,
a time when they offer us the
solace of communication.
And what do we offer them?
Hobgoblins, weird witches,
vampires and ghouls.
Cries of trick or treat,
candy canes and pumpkin pies.
The sacred feast of Samhain
reduced to trivialities.
How many of our ancestors spirits
will go unheeded this year?
Or will you like me set a place
at your festive table and
invite a guest to celebrate the
feast of the dead with you.

Author's Notes: I have nothing against halloween and its traditions just that there is another side to this time of year. A side that is so often forgot.
