Samhain

by Moonlight Wolf

Age Group: Adult

The old year draws now to a close
Out with summer it shall go
Time for green to hide away
Time to head to colder days
Samhain calls the time to rest
In our Mother and Crone's breast
The veil between the worlds is thin
Let the festive night begin.

Death now rides by through the night
Nature sleeps now out of sight
The Goddess on the earth alone
The ground as hard and cold as stone
The time for warmth and light is sped
The Horned God He now is dead
The Hunter draws now to the souls
Wandering over sleeping groves

Ancestors come with tidings glad
Remembering time alive they had
Coming to our suppers dumb
Rising with the setting sun
Relatives and all our friends
The cycle carries on no end
They come see us now on this night
And part again at morning light.

The hunters hounds now do howl
Sensitive cats how they yowl
Witches gather set the feast
To all those who rest in peace
The autumn wind it brings a chill
With the frigid Samhain thrill
Parted spirits come to us
From the ground and from the dust

The air it soon is turning cold
Passing out the year of old
Thirteenth card calls to let go
Off the fears and past we throw
Fifthteenth card of Underworld
Where the God now rests unheard
Giggles, shrieks and cheering too
Bringing in the year of new

Orange, black and hidden gold
Let our fortunes now be told
Last of harvest now is in
Time to draw ourselves within
Close the door now on the past
Winter is a closing fast
The dead shall come and part again
On this night we call Samhain
