Phylogeny

by Cyclop
 Age Group: Adult

The Goddess has given us a duty of old, Her great gift in honour, for men to hold, To champion and protect her daughters fair, That none might harm so much as a hair. Maiden in white with her arrows and bow, Flowers in her hair, her dreams in full flow. Triple knotted girdle protecting from all things lewd, 'Til her blessed initiation into womanhood. Libidinous Nymph-Mother all in scarlet, Bloodied from childbirth and divine harlot. Lying with her lovers under the night sky Holding them in thrall, need you ask why? Old sage wrapped warmly in darkest of blue, Font of all knowledge and cunning old shrew. Will teach you of herbs, the Goddess’s tune, Tales of the ancestors, the stars and the moon. Be not distracted by their natural lust, Give them their freedom and bind them with trust. Jealousy is a mark of the slaver’s tool, Unbecoming to men who’re more than mere fool. We need them to cope with our failings too, Not one rule for me and another for you, What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, We must forgive them too when they philander. Let us build a statute of governance new, Full of love and respect and deference true, Give them their true place without hint of bluff, For equality is just not good enough.
Author's Notes: Phylogeny: {FILL-LODGE-GEN-KNEE] from the Greek: Phylo – a lover of: Gynaikoi – women. The antonym of Misogyny. Philander: from the Greek: Phylo – a lover of: Androi – men. While the word has come to mean any person who indulges in multi-partner relationships, strictly speaking amongst men it is a “minority sport”. We must remember that the original philanders were old Greeks who locked up their wives at home and found true love with a slave boy at the bath house. It was Robert Graves who wrote that the colours of the Goddess were red, white and blue, and reminded us that the three knots in the girdle of a monk’s habit denoting the Trinity had an older meaning.
