What’s in it for Me?

July 2007 in a blur?
Sheryl Crowe says,
“If it makes you happy then it can’t be that bad.”
It is sad to find you weak without me as your compass.
If this makes you happy then insecurities have your soul.
Who will fill the role of your marionette now?
Bring me more. What else is in store was your first question to me?
You saw the light. You were right.
The world was our oyster and you had the taste.
We made haste to chase our souls.
I proved my love to you thru and thru.
You have minks, diamonds and sons
with vacations in, Vegas, KC or
the Alpine Highlands,
whatever your little mind imagines:
armoires and antiques given to your desire.
Our roles are well rehearsed.
I provide; you say tomorrow is worse.
I married you for my pretty date; ingrate.
You promised me when I filled your needs
It would be time for my greater deeds.
I had to grovel to make mere mention of a novel.
You were too weak to provide for me.
It’s up to me, I see.
My own Happiness is in me for all the world to see.
