The Grotto of Pan, book 2

BOOK TWO
Canto 1.
Of the erotic Couple's journey home
and the obstacles angrily put there
by Mars to prevent their deathless return
sing, goddess, Venus, in the Roman tongue.
Bacchus and Venus escaped Bethlehem
by way of pyramidal water routes
underground from the Herodion tombs
to the Gazan Mediterranean shores;
and from there their home where lovers first met
at the Tripolis Libyan beaches,
where Philip in his gospel wrote, "When Eve
was still in Adam death did not exist.
When she was separated from him, death
came into being. If he again becomes
complete and attains his former self,
death will be no more."
Christ and Magdalen
sailed forever from old Canaanite shores
to Alexandria, first, pursued there by
christian-martians in their hate of Pan;
and then. Praying at Cleopatra's tomb
they followed the rocky African coast
westward like pharaohs, mummies, unto life
everlasting Original and true
landing where lotus-eaters and Carthage
built the harbors of Minerva Pallas,
and Phoenicians loved the Leptis Magna.
