Nutshell, my Life

Age Group: Teen
I stand in a unfamiliar wood
and like Hermia, vicious snakes
slither up my arms,
coiling themselves around
my wrists.
Their scales are fire,
perse tongues licking
the crimson life fluid from the burns.
They disappear in a puff
of black powder
that chokes my lungs.
The smell of autumn.
The sound of silver laughing.
Every breath is like a breath
under concentration,
unwilling and afraid.
The word, "severe"
burns the back
of my eyelids
until I see glowing white orbs dancing in my vision.
I want to pull these painful splinters
from my muddled thoughts,
but it's like blood seeping from a open
wound,
unable to be taken back.
The man haunts my mirror,
I see him every
night.
Ever since the man
decided to take my life.
