Legend of the Grey Wolf
by Celtic Grey Wolf
Age Group: Adult
There is a wolf of shadowy grey
tall and lean and fast.
Running toward his destiny,
and running from the past.
He came from the misty hillsides,
where fog embraces the land.
His eyes are green and hard as steel,
and his hair the color of sand.
Determination is carved into his face,
etched in slate and stone.
His presence can be felt before he is there,
like a chill running through your bone.
Many have called upon him,
in their hour of greatest need.
Speak his name and he will appear,
ready to take the lead.
Some claim he is living on borrowed time,
That he and Death will soon meet.
Others say they already have,
and the Reaper lay still at his feet
Do not attempt to capture him,
for out of the shadows he leaps.
He navigates by the light of the moon,
and one eye on the mountain he keeps.
There will be one who can tame his heart,
and still his restless yearning.
A woman of exceptional means,
who can cool a wolf's inner burning.
It is for her now that the Grey Wolf hunts,
perpetually he seeks.
An ongoing tireless journey,
through hours, days and weeks.
He came down from the mist and the mountain,
to fine that special one.
And to it he will return again,
when at last his search is done.
Away is where his instincts guide him,
never knowing where tomorrow may lead.
Perhaps the mountains of another land,
will provide the answer to his need.
Out of the night you may hear his howling,
but not the classic whining of late,
For him a howl is the scream of his engine,
and the cry of his tortured brakes.
When the fog returns he shall as well,
for it is there he feels at home.
Safely concealed within it's shroud,
yet free enough to roam.
