Invocation of Xolotl

I am the dog-headed Lord of the Gate of Death!
To you, o Sun of night, I whisper the silent shibboleth of the dry, cold Earth!
Call me down to your sterile depths,
Beyond where the pearl doth ripen in the fleshy darkness of unborn day!
From your house in the Western sky,
At the outer ring of the Sun’s life arc,
Outside the circle of space,
From beyond time and beyond place,
Hear my plea o hidden one and accept this --
My gift of song!
(whisper Xolotl!) Thou twin of the wind!
Thou who stole the bones of life from the palace of the dead lords!
Thou keeper of the midnight Sun!
Thou warden of the morning star!
Thine is the darkly shining path!
Guide me through the perils of the dead-place,
And usher me safely home towards the evening star in the night sky!
O little brother of the Western Sun!
By my side you shall run!
By the flaming arrow of my Will have I slain you in the world before
That you might face with me the yawning darkness of my fears!
You who bear the golden lamp,
Light clear the hidden path I seek!
Long have we crossed the echoed plains!
Lead me through the place of the bladed-wind,
Carry me over the river of the Moon’s nine tears!
