"That Crazy Monster Called Pop"

It is happening again,
The rage, the yelling, the screaming
Oh God, please make him stop.
That crazy monster called pop
He is drunk again,
And angry with my mother
I cower in my room holding my sister
As we cry
And wish he would die
God, make him stop, we pray,
can we make it through this day?
We live in fear and doubt,
With the knowledge that he won't stop
This crazy monster called pop.
He gets drunk every day,
To be able to hit my mother,
He is a coward of a man,
But we are scared and try to have a plan.
We have envisioned how to dispose of him,
Only to be shaken to the reality of sin,
He is not a human being, I say to my sis,
So we dismiss this.
We try to make like we have a normal life,
but it is something that cannot be done in strife.
He will never know how much he hurt us,
We were never allowed to discuss,
this part of our lives,
with anybody, if we wanted to survive,
this hidden life of a child of violence.
I can still hear the slaps hitting my mother,
as if it were yesterday,
I cried my childhood away,
and vowed to never put up,
with a man,
that would do such things to a woman.
He is not a pop to us,
someone we cannot trust,
It has haunted me my whole life,
To live with the knowledge that I could not stop,
That crazy monster called Pop!
Author's Notes: I lived with violence during my childhood,
and brought myself up to be good. I made a promise to myself to never ever put up with a man like pop.
He was not a human being. He was a monster. I only found peace four years ago, when he passed away. I was relieved, not even sad!
