*That Fatal Division of Father and Child*

"That Fatal Divison of Father and Child"
by Amber Moonstone 2/14/07
Tears erupting from within,
cleansing the soul once again.
I mourn the loss of your life,
a life that was filled with so much strife.
You were a poor boy from PA,
with not much time for childhood play.
You were forced to work at a young age
which formed a behavior of rage.
Your father beat you every night,
which was the beginning of your plight.
Then one day he passed away,
and you knew you didnt have to stay.
You started your boxing career,
only to feed that rage so dear.
You held it in until each bout,
so the rage would then come out.
Amazing career that ended too soon,
that rage began, again, to bloom.
It was that rage that never died
and at times I know you cried.
But you still chose to keep it in,
knowing that it would always win.
One day you took it way too far,
and you gave us all a scar.
We watched you beat our mother so bad
and when they took you, we were all very glad.
You went away for a long time
only to return and continue to be blind.
You continued to strike out from your rage,
but now we were all at a different stage.
We would not allow you to do such things
and in the end you knew it brings
That fatal division of father and child, Forever!
Author's Notes: Just because you father a child does not mean you are a "father". I came across my father's obituary today when I was surfing the net for my grandmother's obituary. This poem is a result of a memory that was triggered by viewing his obituary.
I was never able to tell my father that I forgave him before he died, I have misgivings about this, but I cannot do anything to change it. It is what it is!
Joseph Paul, I forgive you, May you rest in peace and light!
Peace, love, and light,
