"Recurring Dream, or A Memory?"
by Amber Moonstone 4/16/07
This has been a recurring dream, something has prompted me to write this in poetry form. Here is the dream that I have had once or twice each year for the past five years:
She walks slowly into an Indian teepee,
dressed in buckskin clothing carrying a tiny baby.
Her hair is as dark as the night,
but as shinny as the daylight sun.
She is an Indian princess,
wearing the beads of royalty
walking with pride and confidence.
Her people turn their heads to look at her.
She lays upon the earthen mattress
covered with blankets made by her own hands
knowing that soon her chief will be arriving.
She swaddles her baby boy and gives him nourishment.
Hours pass and the two are asleep
as the day turns to night
they do not stir, but remain quiet and content.
The morning hours are approaching.
They are startled and awakened by the sound of gunfire.
Before they have a chance to look outside
they are swept up by soldiers in blue uniforms.
Her baby is pulled from her arms and taken away.
She is screaming and crying for her baby boy.
Her cries are in vain, no one is listening.
She is tied and thrown into a wagon.
Scared and alone, she weeps for her baby.
Days turn into months, and still she cries for her son.
She is a prisoner, held against her will
to take care of the sick and wounded.
Many months are swiftly fleeting by.
She still cries for her son.
Years later, while traveling to another village
She comes upon a young boy with unmistakable eyes,
she knows in her heart that this is her son, "Tender Hawk"
She calls to him, his given name,
He looks at her and smiles but walks away.
She knew at that moment as their eyes met,
that she finally found her baby boy.
This is where the dream ends all the time!
Author's Notes: This is a recurring dream, or is it a memory from another lifetime? I have always been drawn to native american rituals and cultures.
I believe it is not a recurring dream but a memory.
