They Taught us the Wrong Way!!!

This is NOT a poem...more my own personal beliefs here!
I grew up in Berkeley or "Berzerkely" or what my hubby likes to call "The People's Republic of California!"
The moment that I began to live in the D.C., Virginia, Maryland area.. is when I finally started to have a huge "culture shock" as in people where I live..they don't treat people differently because of their race! (not where I am at! You DON'T see or feel this, or hear it!! Trust me, this really is what it's like here!)
I was sooo used to being around people in my homestate..where the people are so Oppressed that you NOTICE the differences! There really isn't a time of day that you do not see or hear or just feel the vast differences in races, ethnicity, and so much More!
I was raised to learn MORE about Kids and adults who are BLACK or "African American"
this was PUSHED into us! WE HAD to learn this history, because it was a program in our school systems!
Do you know, that I had always thought that this was Okay?
I actually thought that this was the norm!
I thought that this was a really cool cultural thing, and for years I bragged how we were taught!!
NOT good!! Nope!
This is a really, really insidious way to teach children! I feel that this is VERY WRONG!!
It puts people of ALL races, into a deep OPRRESSION! I don't feel right about this at all!
I feel HURT by this! I also feel that if there were MORE families of all cultures allowed or just wanting to live in more predominantly white neighborhoods, or Where ever they wanted to live..that this would not have been as noticable!! Maybe we could have viewed one another as just PEOPLE!
I hate what I had to go thru! I honestly feel that this has added strife and negativism and hatred, racism, and separatism to all of us!!
This is NOT the way that children in ANY place should be brought up!
This is OPPRESSION!
It's wrong...and to those who think that "YOU can just get over this, now that you know!" Well, there is a LOT more to just what I happen to be writing about here..., there are many, many forms of OPPRESSION...and I have only written about what I went thru!
It might take me a while to RElearn how to NOT see things the way that I do!
I am now ashamed and embarrassed that I learned how I learned!
I used to think that it was a beautiful strong way to learn..but, it isn't ..and it's also NOT funny!
I would love for children and adults to be able to really truly appreciate others for WHO they are...but, not WHAT they are...as in their cultural differences and all! You really do tend to notice the way people are...by separating classes.., races, and where we live..and so forth! We were done a Grave DISservice!! Very grave!!!
This needs to END!!! It's not a "good thing!" it is done to ALL races..and it isn't only in California.. either! This is sick and poisonous to me!! and for many all around me!!

Just my strong personal views...I may shock a LOT of friends and family..but, Hey, I got MY shock, when I moved here! I really think that I got a raw deal!!
