"Fred" and other feathered or furry friends!

by Ladykelshan
 Age Group: Adult

"Fred" landed on the porch railing..sidestepping the peanuts , and the blob of suet and cracked corn. The clever bird kicked off the peanuts one by one, till he got to the blob of suet and the cookies remaining on the railing. The crow, stared down at the blob, and then picked it up, but wait! Lo and behold, there was a delicious looking cookie, staring up at him . He slowly bent down and gently put down the blob of suet..only to pick up the cookie closest to him! But, wait! There was another cookie, right along side of that one! He put that cookie he had in his beak down near his feet, ..and then tried to maneuver the other cookie close to the first cookie..but, alas, it was NOT to be! LOL! Fred found that the larger of the two cookies would work, and so, without further adieu, he picked up the larger one, and looked around quickly and took off!
(This happened this week..and it was rather hilarious to watch! Ha ha!!)
Part two:
Fred came back last night..to Cool Off..as it was a most humid day for him or her (since I do not happen to know for sure..I will just say "him" for now!) He stood on the railing, on our porch..and he tilted his head sideways, , and then upside down, and then sideways..and stretched his neck, or what he had for one anyways! He was standing there, stretching and looking rather cute, if I have to be honest here! LOL! He stood there, not moving, not looking like he was planning to take off, anytime soon. I decided to feed him an animal cookie..Barnum animal crackers..I thought that they might just do the trick! I was out of grapes.I, first peered thru the door, and showed him the cookies...I waved them at his face..so that he would see me, and not fly off, and get "interested" in the food! I, then, had to open the door slowly, sooo slowly...so I did NOT frighten him away..He stood still looking at me, and the roof, and the ground and the sky..as he twisted his neck all around..as if he were some type of contortionist! I opened the door, and he sort of shook a bit..but, he did not fly off, I made those "kissing sounds" as most people do when speaking to their pets, and I said softly to him "It's okay! It's alright!" and then, slowly added the cookies to the railing..and still coaxed him gently...saying "It's really okay! You can have a cookie!" Come on, it's okay!!" Fred, stood there, his head went sideways..and then he straightened up and sidestepped gingerly over to me..slowly, slowly, then suddenly quickly picked up the cookie..and turned and flew off!
I think that actually was the closest that I was to a wild bird from my porch! LOL! I am hoping that he and his other friend or mate may come to visit again! There is also a dove here that likes to "watch" me..and my hubby and keep "his or her" eyes on us!! The dove seems more curious than most of the doves that visit..and has even flown up on an ice chest to peer thru our bedroom windows! LOL! But, the other night, I think that I saw "my dove"...watching on the railing..and trying to figure out "what in the world is that human doing in there!" (We were watching movies! LOL!!)
Birds really make me laugh...some slip and slide off of the railing..and they may try their darndest to get back up on the railing..but, whoops! too late!! LOL!! They will feed their young and BOY do you hear them cheep, cheep, cheeping..don't know what they are talkin' about..but, it is VERY loud!! They hang out on the edge of our porch and or fly back and forth between our porch and the fir tree..I guess that they all take "turns" pigging out! ha ha ha!! The sparrows will land on the branches and watch as I sweep the porch a lot..and the doves are "watching" us too! Sometimes they want US to move off of THEIR porch! LMAO!!! They also sit on the branches like little "candles' and some bow the branches so much..you would think that they would all slide off of the branches! It can get pretty "top heavy!"
I also feed the squirrels and bluejays..both love nuts...and I think that the squirrel here, has been desperately trying to find a way to our porch..but, there is no direct way to get to it, , unless he has a set of wings! LOL! But, I also think that the squirrels think that it will "Rain" peanuts..and or almonds..or cookies! LMAO! (it does, but, NOT "natuarally!" LOL!
Just wanted to share about the birds in MY neighborhood..and their quirkiness! LOL!
