The Awakening

by Earthlover
 Age Group: Adult

The fire lit, we heard the call, To join together, one and all,
The smudging done to purify, We entered in, for the time was nigh,
One by one, we circled round', To begin our rites, as Goddess looked down,
The moon was full on this Samhain night, The Guardians were called and all was right,
The dumb supper held for our loved ones passed, Their lives with us went much too fast,
Calling out to them, with hearts full of love, To join us neath' the sky above,
I ate so I'd never hunger, I drank so I'd never thirst,
This most holy Sabbat, Was my very first,
Stay if you will and leave if you must, I felt perfect love and perfect trust,
We bid hail and farewell after all was complete, The circle had brought bright blessings so sweet,
The celebration in which I'd taken part, Had warmed my soul and filled my heart,
We joined hands and danced round' this most sacred fire, Like our spirits the flames shot up higher and higher,
I then knew in the past I had gotten it wrong, And that this is the life for which I had longed,
My spirit had soared and my senses had quickened, I knew then and there I had always been Wiccan!
Author's Notes: This poem is straight from my heart. It is about the first Sabbat I was ever priviledged to attend. I had always had so many questions about Christianity and though I tried very hard I could never get myself to believe everything I was being taught. I accepted the bible but to me it just did not all add up. I realized after this experience on Samhain that I truly had always been a Wiccan but just did not realize it or at least did not know what to call what I was. Thank the Goddess that my eyes have been opened. I also would like to thank Nims and the Midnight Moon Grove Coven for opening my eyes and allowing me to participate in their sacred rite. Blessed Be!,
