I Am the God

I am the God
The hunter, the protector
Without question, I am the lover
Who rose from the ashes
Who am I
Do you know me
Have you felt me
Seen me
I am the warrior
Who fought for the maiden’s heart
Across tainted battlefields
Staring down the darkness
The beast that sought to enslave
Purging its poison from my soul
Do you know me
My Goddess, she stands before me
Her love, absolute and unconditional
She is the earth
My earth
That grounds and sustains me
Content to live here in my arms
As I am to remain at her side
To look into her eyes
Knowing, if need be
In exchange for her life
I would give my final breath
Do you know her
Have you seen
Can you tell
She is my strength
Has always been
The angel who stole my heart
Ageless and inspiring
She who healed me
Though decades gone,
I still see her there
Just as I did then
No more than 20 years old
Excruciatingly independent
Stubborn and headstrong
My Maiden, my Angel, my Goddess
Do you know her
Impossible to conceal the smile
When I think back then
This girl, this woman who,
For the likes of me, had no time or use
Mind you, it is not the ill
Nor the weakness she fears
She could never be so cruel
It is but the gold plated image, the persona
From which she forces herself to retreat
In her eyes, I am nothing more than a man
There is no more perfect a gift
She could’ve given me
To be only but a man
From who she needs nothing more
Than to leap into his arms
To feel his lips on hers
To feel him there
Every aching ounce of him
Pressed against her
Whilst she loses her herself
With the fading of the day
And I realize then, I am more than a man
I am a God
Irrevocably her God
Her hunter, her protector
Her lover
I am the only God, to which
She has so gracefully tendered her hand
Honestly, truly, unconditionally
The God from whom
She refuses to turn away
He who she will forever look to
As he does her
For answers
For laughter, understanding, reassurance
For comfort and healing
For solitude
I am the God
The hunter, the protector
And I am without question
The lover, who rose from the ashes

Chin up, sword drawn
Staring down the darkness
