Starbeams and Moonshadows

Age Group: Adult
In winters cold
on a pitch black night,
beneath empty skies
no stars in sight.
Pouring across the horizon
darkness thick and wet,
running across the landscape
lining every silhouette.
Where did the starlight go
why has it fled?
The eternal source of awe and myth
so long overhead.
Luna's absence so foreboding
where did the maiden go?
Generations uncountable
danced to her ebb and flow.
Have they gone forever
banished from our sight?
has mankind finally blinded itself
to the silver light?
Gaia's tears are streaming
as her soul is ravaged,
at the hands of man
her noble bounty savaged.
All our eyes are darkened
to the deeds done in our name,
our actions betray our intent
and things remain the same.
Her womb is torn asunder
and we turn a blind eye,
oblivious to the consequences
of our techno high.
Lift your eyes to the heavens
and if you sincerely try to see
the magnificence of the universe
still swirls over you and me.
Paradise beneath our feet
to fulfill our every basic desire,
but first take all our excesses
and feed them to the fire.
If we would live simply
so that others can simply live,
and remember to always give freely
and take only what others freely give.
The world has hate and pain
more than enough to spare,
Instead of feeding the gluttony
nurture the love and care.
Eyes were meant to see
but see best when joined with the heart
hate and suffering end
when you refuse to take part.
Sunlight is starlight
if you are open to the thought,
Even the darkest night
has a moonshadow or two to be caught.
