Invocation to the Goddess of Death
by Lady Abigail
Age Group: Adult
(A Samhain Invocation)
We measure life no less then these,
No more in the death of earthen trees.
We measure our circle in love and trust,
As life again returns unto the dust.
All souls come again within the night,
And walk in the keeping of the Goddess light.
Come now, Brother, Sister, Friend,
We call ye come, from the Underworlds end.
We summon you keeper of men's souls,
Stand beside us within the night so cold.
You are the walker of dark spirals hence called,
Lady of winter, Your wheel turns, ending the fall.
At the crossroad we stand on this hollowed night,
Thy torches like beacons come within sight.
We call thy powers from the invisible cloak,
With honor given and now to invoke.
Come embrace us before thy dark frosty sleep,
Our time is protected in the bounty we reap.
Your rest is called with no fear or strife,
We see you before us as the dawn comes to life.
Gentle are the calling winds as they sway,
Changing the colors held in thy autumn days,
Snowy white will blanket the ground,
Rest in thy sleep as the circle turns round.
Then we shall rise and call thee anew,
With bonfires built from oak and yew.
Bearing the scent of the cool sweet earth,
Assuring thy return of life’s renewing birth.
So shall it ever be…
