River Meeting

Thor and Odin--river meeting--
insults hurled at each other.
"You're a peasant"--"You're elitist.
All you bring is death and ruin."
"And your followers are barely living--
scratching, saving, pecking at dirt.
Though their lives are brief, my people
live their moments to the fullest."
"Without my followers, you'd have none.
Who would feed them; who would serve them?
People who work and people who grow
are the ones who truly live."
Seething with rage, they glared at each other
till the river between them boiled.
There they parted with no solution
to the peasant and the lord.
Author's Notes: Based on a meeting between Thor and Odin in the Elder Edda. It's thought that Thor's cult was popular among the peasantry, while Odin's was popular among the rulers and warriors.
