Nails on Satin sheets

Fine.
Secretly, I don't mind the blood, the memories, the nagging, the jokes.
Neither do you.
And even more secretly?
I'm so in love with you.
Goodbye, today, yesterday.
Ironic.
Isn't it?
But I'm not so sure of anything anymore. My confidence, my will to improve is practically gone.
I hate that.
I'm just everything.
Right?
So...?
Kiss me.
we could stand there, uncertain
about which key opens what door
hands fisted and shoved deep into trench coats
oval mouths puffing cold smoke rings
frightened of what touch could do.
of what touch might not do.
promise you'll stop when my dress has slipped off?
i look up with a pouting lip and round eyes.
imaginary bombs burst into air
to contrast the dark, dark hollow.
i'm listening for it,
like an overdue library book.
as soon as your nails stop ripping into my skin.
we've lost control.
your belt buckle: an enigma, placid
with isms and schisms.
