Autumn Leaves

Amid this place of all alone
I feel the heartbeat of a One
Who whispers me in words of form
Of falling leaves and color gold.
The rattle of the drying stalks
Of corn which fed me recently,
Remembers me of debt unfilled,
Of human reciprocity.
We take, we take, we do not give;
It is a never ending trend.
What hollowness of human spirit
Allows the awesome deficit?
A golden rain of autumn leaves,
With red and brown aground before,
Allows me momentary bliss
Resolving in an awesome storm.
The trees are mowed like so much hay,
To feed the beef that feeds the fray.
Your children flee the dreadful fires
Which cache the land like funeral pyres.
Oh Artemis of Forest prime,
Please help us with this aberration.
Kill this power, strip this force
Of that which threatens obliteration.
Without your aide, we all must die
Of plagues, of ice, of endless wars.
Bestow on humankind, I pray,
An understanding of our force.
Allow us, please, to comprehend
The utter folly of our plan.
Our Mother Earth is now at risk.
We are so close to bitter end.
Without your aide, I fear we must
Be soon at loss, the planet dead.
Within us grant the power we need
To overcome that scene I dread.
