Desert Heat

You press on me as though you'd weight.
You sap my strength as though you'd need.
You suck my life each breath I take.
You are a God, I must take heed.
I see your colors, red and sand;
The bits of green my eyes drink hard.
Cactus' home to birds, awhile,
Give homage not to life unmarred.
Hostile world beneath old sol,
With lizards' holes at every step,
Grant me time, my tale's not told;
Too soon, at last of flesh bereft.
Skeletons white amid the beige
Lie thousands in their unmarked graves.
I feel them close with every ray
Of heat and light you send my way.
Lend me, God and Goddess, strength.
Your power does unhuman me
In ways I've never felt before.
I Pray You Let My Glory Be.
