Hope
by Soaring
Age Group: Teen
Hope is a prison,
Welcomed by its captives,
Loved by its victims,
And adored by its blind followers.
It is a cage that is worshipped,
As a holy object,
And kept in our hearts,
Under lock and key.
Hope is a being, a live thing,
To be tended and cared for,
Tenderly.
Even in all its thorny death.
It is to be well kept, made small and beautiful,
By those who seek its comfort,
Those who wish to hide from a reality,
That is worse than the bars,
Such a comfort creates around them.
Misunderstanding these words,
Is understandable,
As in their blunt content,
They fail to state clearly,
The many facets of a thing so rounded,
It is no longer a sphere.
Hope is wondrous,
And it does wonders.
It is the drive that pushes people,
To their purpose, and to their full power,
In this short time they have.
It is a miracle in its immaterial nature,
A thing to be felt rather than seen,
And all the more real because of it.
Hope is a being,
A living thing,
To be tended,
And cared for,
Tenderly.
Author's Notes: Inspired by my previous poem, "Collide". The connection is easy to make when the end of "Collide" is inspected.
