Legend of China Grove

There's a legend that's been told-
About a church called China Grove.
It was the foundation of this town-
When people came from all around.
Back in the days-
When farms and plantations had slaves.
What would become haunted land-
Were tombs for every child, woman, and man.
Where once slaves and owners came together-
To worship and to pray, altogether.
Although together, they were separated-
Even unto death, they were unrelated.
There are panthers that roam those grounds-
Where spirits of the slaves are found.
On a full moon night-
They rise and take flight.
Reliving the days-
When the town was made.
And in the background of the cemetery-
Their shuffling feet and voices still carry.
