Ode to a Hiccup

by Friendly Spirit
 [WVox Sponsor]
 Age Group: Adult

Ode to a Hiccup
A "spasmodic inhalation” Human dictionaries call thee But I know you are so much more Oh hiccup, friend of me.
A hiccup is immortal Even when you think it’s died As some day when unexpected It’ll pop back to just say “hi”
A hiccup causes laughter In class, at work, at home For when it makes you sing out Others become laughter prone
A hiccup knows no prejudice Against race or sex or creed A hiccup never shot anyone A hiccup has no greed
A hiccup can be anywhere On land, in planes, at sea It visits where and when it wants It’ll be where it wants to be.
While man has tried to stop you With bags and screams and drink Mighty hiccup left when it wanted to No matter what they think
Hiccups predate society They even predate man It would not surprise me If from hiccups T-Rex ran
Hiccups can change your life For all the world to see Because hiccups joined my speech in class My grade went from “A” to “B”.
If mama hadn’t hiccupped Just before she did conceive My whole life may have greatly changed And a girl I might now be.
Oh mighty, powerful hiccup Come visit when you are free I’ll never, ever fight you again And a friend to you I’ll be.
Author's Notes: It occurred to me today that it is highly likely that in the entire history of mankind, no one has ever written an ode to a hiccup. This may be true not only for the history of this planet but in all history on all planets that ever held life forms that wrote things. Soooooooooooo, in the spirit of play, I wanted to be the first:) If thousands of years from now, there is some intergalactic "Trivial Pursuit" game and the question is "Who wrote the first ode to a hiccup in intergalactic history", then you readers will be among the few to be able to say "Why it was 'Friendly Spirit' of course:) :)
I know, I know you are probably saying "this girl has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on her hands". But life is a game after all and please do consider this one thing: - If so much as one person laughed or even smiled at any part of this ode then I submit that this "Ode to a Hiccup" has more social significance and value than the libraries of "religious" and "philosophical" writings that preach that you the spiritual being are insignificant or without value:) Therefore I dedicate this ode to all other friendly spirits out there who are making life a game and wish to share their smiles with others.
