Outside the Wind is Howling

Outside the wind is howling
and I dare not make a peep;
how I wish it would be quiet
so that I could go to sleep.
But outside the wind is howling
and it sounds just like the dead
and I fear they’re drawing closer
and I fear they must be fed!
I pull the blankets to me
and my eyes are big and round
while the wind outside keeps howling
such a loathsome, awful sound!
All the moaning and the shrieking,
Oh, it’s more than I can bear;
It seems that it surrounds me
and it comes from everywhere!
And now the beast, it is upon me
and its eyes are glowing red;
I am certain this encounter
will most surely leave me dead.
Its horrid lips are spreading
to a gruesome, hellish grin
as it whispers to me softly
that it never was the wind.
