The Lady and the Lord

In tribute to Emily Dickinson--a spirit free in caring!
As hard as a rock life is, so often
Full of hopes not fulfilled, pains, and despair.
How vain it is, to seek ways to soften
The hardness of a realized nightmare!
What we cannot soften we ought to face;
Taking your own life helps only the worms.
Being flawed, may I have the saving grace
Of sharing what suffering helped me learn.
Leaving myself behind, may my heart heed
The call of the helpless creature in pain.
It's one way for the spirit to be freed
From the bondage of a life lived in vain.
Lady Wisdom teaches us many things,
But Lord Pain makes possible true learning.
