Lamentations of Orpheus

If only I had waited for a spell,
Even just one heartbeat longer! Damn life!
Damn you, Love, but the seed of endless grief!
Eternity is but the gleam of joy
In the eyes of my beloved maiden,
Fallen through my fingers like grains of sand.
When May draws near and Persephone comes,
Butterflies may flutter and bees' wings hum
In meadows renewed in spritely colors,
But nevermore is Eurydice heard.
Never again will the world be the same!
My music has lost all reason, but this:
To sing my woe, and note by note, to die,
Recalling her last words, "FAREWELL! Farewell -"
Author's Notes: Beltaine traditionally is a time to celebrate life, but realistically, so often we carry heavy emotional baggage on our backs which makes it quite hard to dance! To have a religious philosophy of celebration, we must first heal, and to heal, we must first feel, all the pain we push out of our awareness. That's called "catharsis", and the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice is perfect for it.
