"Enchantment"

How can someone look at the world
and not turn spellbound?
Looking at the nature near me, all around,
Everything may seem scientifically sound
To the uncritical eye, but look maturely and spy
The magical rings of the fairies found,
And go bewitched! Gaze at that giant rock in space
And, beyond the craters, yet behold the spirit face
They call, "The Man in the Moon"! Comb the old, forgotten places,
To tremble at the agonized, and agonizing faces
Of ghosts lingering, and maybe feel an icy finger!
Now, with your psychically working eye,
Gaze at the blossom-hopping butterfly
Called, "Enchantment". It sucks the nectar and works a spell
On each wildflower, within its priceless bell.
Off enchantment goes, over and over
Without notice! and working so short
It seems that Order rules the worldwide Court!
Enchantment may come and go like a fickle lover,
But it keeps the magic alive and well.
Where next? Why foretell, and be a spoil-sport?
Besides, even Nature cannot foretell!
