Hide and Seek
by Radko Vacek
Age Group: Adult
I claimed dear Earth as home! Like a hobo,
I wandered freely as a deer, until
The sun on the horizon sank below,
The last bird stopped singing, and all went still.
Then I laid myself down beside a line
Of trees and bushes, that night to call mine
That spot of grass, if Nature so would will.
The full moon was rising, that ancient face
Like images in orbs of passed loved ones.
I was remembering, to my disgrace,
My foul words said and bad deeds I had done.
The westward falling shadows covered me,
As I lay on the grass to let sleep be
And dream before the rising of the sun.
My mentality, human and thus weak,
Childishly moved me. I used night to hide,
But Lady Luna kindly came to seek,
Rising up over to the western side,
And found me hiding fast asleep - for shame!
My dreamy ear heard her, calling my name!
Loving wisdom comes after fallen pride.
