Lord Diligence and Lady Compassion

Age Group: Adult
Ideal is someone who works hard and well,
With luck good enough to get fair wages,
And the compassion to let the heart tell
How to use them for the most happiness,
In the form of both spare time and good things
Given to those whose needs are the greatest.
Wisdom at the most is a mixed blessing,
And intelligence may not serve the best.
Although wisdom may bring about pleasures,
Often it comes at the price of great pains,
And that faculty which weighs and measures
Often brings losses greater than the gains.
Diligence, Compassion, and the Fortune
Of them well wed, make someone the best boon.
