For the Sake of Their New Gods,

They would blow off Mount Olympus, for coal!
Leveled, it would approximate a plain.
Others would make mere matter of the soul,
Thus reduced to the level of the brain.
This is a matter of exploitation,
To make us interchangably the same!
"Know thyself!" That was the exhortation
Of Socrates. Perhaps he taught in vain!
To know and to control - that is the aim
Of the scientists which we have become.
How sad it is, that we forgot to rein
In ourselves, not to do what we have done!
"What is that?" Must I answer that question?
But I will, to better their selection!
Author's Notes: This refers to the atrocity of Appalachian mountain-top removal, for coal! To destroy the beauties of Nature this way, and pollute the rivers so, just for their own profit!
