The Tightrope Dancer

Wisdom comes when all three come together:
Experience long enough to gain it,
A brain still sound enough to retain it,
And the right experiences, of course
Rarely gained when life is such smooth sailing
That you hardly experience failing.
On the other hand, Wisdom shuns a brain
Lamenting life lived in vain or in pain.
Suffer, but do not regret: thus grow wise.
This is so, because Wisdom loves the skies
Of a night with the peace of the full moon,
Yet dark enough to know the distant stars.
To walk the tightrope joining pain and peace
Is the way to make life your masterpiece.
