Dearest Ida,

On Mount Ida did Astrophel
A cosmic palance construct,
In honor of Stella the starry-eyed, his belle,
And Penelope their pristine daughter -
By Jove! The BEST that Heaven and Earth offer.
With imagination the key,
My friend, I shall conduct
A grand tour just for you, for free!
Behold the palance, a dome of crystal clearest
Designed for sanctity, to hold the very best,
Big enough to emcompass twelve huge houses!
Let us make the twelfth house first
For this simple reason: you will feel immersed!
Lo, all over the walls you find
Depictions of the sea, and here -
Beware this does not blow your mind! -
Poseidon himself, from the waves, appears!
Gigantic in size he is, his crown studded with vast pearls.
His face looks old, and yet like Zeus, he clearly charms the girls.
Triton, of course, tags along - what a sight, half skin, half scales!
Impish is his face! His temples have budding horns.
He blows a horn half his size, his king the god to hail,
Who rules the all-inclusive waters, from which the self is born.
To Triton's left behold the child
Walking upon the ocean blue.
Now notice, with an honest smile:
Yes! That magical child is you!
To Triton's right the face behold,
Half human, half octopus, with
The eight tentacles as her hair -
That face! the very stuff of myths
From which the miracles unfold.
Your psi makes you expect her there!
We have eleven more to go,
But now, for fear your mind might blow -
That could quite well happen it seems! -
Take a break! Do have pleasant dreams!
Author's Notes: Mt. Ida - The highest peak in Crete, a favorite site to worship Zeus.
The intro echoes "Xanadu" by Coleridge.
The twelve houses refer to the twelve houses of the horoscope.
