Thus Celebrate the Fairies

The Samhain of the Fairies is right on
As we, with our apish brains barely can
Imagine! It includes their own version
Of our Olympics. You picture Fairies
Daintily, as butterfly-winged beings?
Ha ha ha! The finest athletes of all
Of us hardly approach how they play ball!
They play the ball, not spitefully the man
As we tend to do. Not doning a cape
To show off as SuperFairy, they use
Sports to work their character into shape,
Discovering, mastering, and testing
Their Nature-given talents. Thus iron-willed,
The dream of Fairy Samhain gets fulfilled!
Theirs is a celebration of those gifts
Bestowed for putting Mother Earth above
Their egos and inordinate self-love.
The Samhain of the Fairies is festive,
As their Fairy poets share such visions
Far wider and grander than any one
Of us can see! Such is the way they live:
Sharing, caring, charming, moving, freeing,
Dreaming, absent-mindedly forgetting,
Kidding, and chameleonlike changing!
They share the beat in metrically fine
Ways, so that magically, line to line,
There works a power lovingly divine,
Both musical and meaningful to all,
In freeing from the tyranny of time!
Their poetry cannot negate the pains
Of having loved and lost, and yet it does
Give the pains purpose. No longer in vain,
The past brightens! Fairies, may we speak thus,
With poetry that heals the world and us!
