Mommy!

Crossing the bridge over the River Maumee,
I see the sun of early afternoon
Shoot his beams down to the water.
How the beams dance upon the waves,
With the balance of this September day!
They glisten the green surface of the river.
Just streaks and patches of white shine upon the blue,
As the cool breeze propels them slowly onward.
The sparkling dancing stretches toward the horizon,
To where the river winds southward around the bend.
Part of me wishes this afternoon would not end.
On hot days I have felt like diving in.
Now, I keep my gaze out to you with respect,
Maumee, Oh Mommy! and feel like I connect,
Following you upstream, with the Source of everything!
Blessed be you, Oh Maternal River!
