In the light of the waxing moon,
As I listen for the hooting owl,
Suddenly I hear this cat - screeching!
It started to my right, perhaps beyond the thicket.
I see the cat running to my left.
What moved the cat to screech?
A giant rat? A bigger cat bullying?
What a mystery! Never will I know,
But if I must, I bet on the big rat.
What moves the owl to hoot? Another owl? Cute!
Or the waxing moon? What moves her to wax?
The sight of something beautiful on Earth?
The hooting owl? But wait! Which moves first,
Wax or hoot? Who knows, but I bet on the hoot!
With such crucial questions to ponder -
What moves the cat to screech?
The owl to hoot? The moon to wax?
While standing at the Gates in Wonder,
Before this starry, nearly infinity,
I do not even dream to ask,
What moves me to be.
