Oh Mithras,

Age Group: Adult
Born from either a rock or a hard place,
Of all the gods, you win the moral race:
Hardships are the parents of character.
You alone had the strength to kill the Bull
Of the Ages. Among the good people,
Even the brightest stars turned out too dull
To do the great deed which lets life go on.
You keep the Heavens turning, forever.
You have the aura that bright, like the sun,
To divide the goodness from the evil.
For having saved the world, we honor you,
When the cycle of the seasons is through.
As the days again start growing longer,
May we heal, and grow kinder, and stronger.
Author's Notes: Mithras is a god whose worship spread from Persia to throughout the Roman Empire. Emperor Julian, 4th century CE, was the last emperor to worship him in preference to Jesus. He is a solar god of ethics and salvation. He can be the Savior that we Pagans celebrate right along with our Christian friends, for his festival of nativity also is on Dec. 25th!
